On June 15-16, the Social Impact Exchange held its 2011 Conference on Scaling Impact, where nearly 400 foundations, philanthropists and philanthropy advisors convened in New York City. The Conference focused on how to build a philanthropic capital marketplace that can finance the scaling of social solutions through a variety of strategies. Including policy efforts, product roll-outs, community collaboratives, program replication and systems change efforts – to name just a few.
The conference also featured announcements and discussions of new initiatives including the introduction of an evaluation framework for scaling, the Social Impact Bond, investment platforms that connect thousands of donors to scaling nonprofits, models to create scaling markets in local cities and specific issues, and the work of intermediaries to help grantees expand their impact. The event was a true collaborative effort by many organizations across the field.
